Manitoba's Provincial Park Act

Manitoba’s Provincial Parks Act is a shameful piece of legislation. Enshrined in the Provincial Parks Act is support for continued industrial activity in our parks. The Parks Act states that provincial parks “shall be maintained for the benefit of future generations”, but in reality it is just window dressing. Manitobans deserve better protection of our parks, and we need anew provincial parks act which legislates protection for our natural and wild areas.

There is one statement in the current Provincial Parks that provides hope for the future of our parks, however:

“No person shall…interfere with the right of other persons to the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of a provincial park.”

If logging disturbs your peaceful enjoyment of a provincial park, then it is prohibited under the Provincial Parks Act, and illegal.
