Last Chance to See: A Wilderness Witness Tour of Sylvia Lake

Sunday February 28

Join the Wilderness Committee and the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society on a cross-country ski and snowshoe tour of the Sylvia Lake area.

Who: Anyone of any skiing or snowshoeing ability
What: A guided one-day ski or snowshoe trek with conservationists on hand to talk about Manitoba's parks
Where: the Sylvia Lake area, in the northwest corner of Whiteshell Provincial Park
When: Sunday, February 28th, 2010, leaving Winnipeg 8:30 a.m. or the Pinawa/Seven Sisters area at 10 a.m., arriving back in Winnipeg around 5:00 p.m.
Why: The government has announced they will allow a corporate youth camp to be built at this location, and we want to provide a chance to see what we could lose if we don't put forth proper management plans for our parks

The day will involve traveling through the Sylvia Lake area on freshly set ski tracks and snowshoe trails, observing the quiet wonder of the winter boreal forest. At campfire stops for hot drinks and snacks, we will talk about our parks, there reason for being, and how we want to take care of them for the future. Lunch will be at a local diner in either Pinawa or Seven Sisters.

Transportation to and from Winnipeg is $10, lunch is not included in the cost but hot beverages and snacks are.

Preregistration is required, in order to ensure enough snacks and seats. Please email or phone either the Wilderness Committee or CPAWS.
